Leona E. Tompkins, age 81, of 1222 First Street in Kiel, died Sunday morning, June 18, 1995, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, where she had been a patient or the past two days.
The former Leona Schleh was born September 23, 1913, in the town of Eaton, daughter of the late Anton and Theresia (née Kaltenbrun) Schleh. She attended grade school in St. Nazianz.
On October 26, 1938, she married Edward Tompkins at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The couple farmed in the town of Eaton until 1977 when she moved to Kiel. Her husband Edward preceded her in death on January 14, 1977.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, Christian Mothers Society, Kiel Senior Citizens and a former member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church, St. Nazianz.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane (Roger) Hickmann, Kiel, Carol (Joseph) Matthias, rural Manitowoc; five grandchildren, Terry, Tom, David, Corey Hickmann, Jesse Matthias; two great-grandchildren, Adam and Tyler Hickmann. She is further survived by one brother, Richard Schleh, Manitowoc; one sister, Margaret Freis, rural Newton.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.
