Obituary:

Donald Lee Anker, 72, of Cass City, beloved brother and uncle, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the same home that he was born in and lived in all his life.

He was born Aug. 18, 1936, the son of the late John A. and Ina Irma (Schantz) Anker.

Donald served in the U.S. Army and worked for General Motors for 15 years. He also worked for Jack and Wallie Kappen for several years, both farming and working at the sawmill. He enjoyed helping people do special projects and if you were ever in town (Cass City) you were sure to see Don having a coffee and either playing Keno or doing a scratch off.

Donald is survived by 4 brothers: Norris (Betty) Anker of Lake Orion, Stanley (Joan) Anker and Howard (Pat) Anker, both of Saginaw, and Lyle (Judy) Anker of Cass City; 5 sisters: Marjorie Braddock of Florida, Geraldine Brown, Audrey (Ralph) Short, Mary Ellen Thayer and Cathy Anker, all of Vassar; and many special and loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law: Vern Brown, William Braddock and David Thayer.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 31, at the VFW Post 3644, Cass City.

Honor services will be by the Cass City VFW.

Burial will be in the Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City.

Arrangements were made by Thabet Funeral Home, Cass City.
