Florence Catherine Harris Abel, affectionately known as Flo, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 9, 2013.

Flo was born in Phniladelphia, PA, on December 28, 1941. She was the beloved wife of Dr. David Lynn Abel; sister of Joan Griffith; sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, godmother and friend. She was the daughter of the late Wilber Fiske and Melda (Beitzel) Harris and granddaughter of the late Henry and Cynthia (Snyder) Beitzel.

Some of Flo's accomplishments included obtaining her Masters of Social Work degree in 1972 from the University of MD in Baltimore. She did forensic social work early in her career and worked as psychotherapist in a mental hospital. Flo was a pioneer in professional Christian counseling from the early Bruce Narramore days. She was a co-founder of Christian Counseling Associates in Columbia, MD, recommended by the Billy Graham Association. She served on many boards and contributed to many changed lives through her long professional career as a licensed clinical marriage and family counselor. Flo is featured in Who's Who in American. She was the author of two books: The Beitzel Family and The Shadow of His Hand. Flo celebrated her 30th anniversary with Dave in January. She retired in 2009.

Flo's interests included spending time with family and friends, church involvement, her poodles, genealogy, painting, Christian music and writing. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Ocean City with her family and to Grantsville for the Beitzel Reunion.

A funeral service will be conducted in the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, MD, on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. in the College Park Wesleyan Church, 4915 Edgewood Rd., North College Park, MD, near Route 1 (Baltimore Blvd; Ikea) exit of 495/95.
