Elmer L. Church, 63, of Bemidji died Sunday, May 23, 1993, at the North Country Regional Hospital. Funeral services were at First Presbyterian Church in Bemidji. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Church was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Nary to Fred and Stella Church. He attended schools in Nary and Carr Lake and Bemidji High School. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad before his marriage Dec. 29, 1950, in Bemidji to June I. Gibson. He then entered the U.S. Marine Corps and returned to Bemidji after being discharged as a corporal. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and retired as an engineer in 1977, after 27 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler and a life member of the VFW Tri-County Post and the Ralph Gracie American Legion Post.

He is survived by his wife: three sons, Rodney (Barb) Church, Michael (Wanda) Church and Kevin (Georgia) Church, all of Bemidji; two daughters, Edris (Don) Burrus of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Jolana (Rich) Hughs of Guthrie; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; his mother of Bemidji; five brothers, Orville (Lorraine Church of Apache Junction, Ariz., Darrell (Ruby) Church of San Antonio, Texas, Dwayne (Kathy) Church of Minneapolis, Dean (Janet) Church of Waterloo, Iowa, and Jerry (Maggie) Church of Fremont, Calif.: and two sisters, Margaret (Earl) Huffman of Woodland, Calif., and Donna (Floyd) Littler of Babbitt.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Orris.
