MOUNT AIRY, NC (Turkey Ford Community) ~ Mr. Ellis Lonzie Danley, 81, of Turkey Ford Road, Mount Airy, husband of Maggie Atkins Danley, passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Danley was born in Surry County on June 28, 1919, the son of Wilson William and Mary Verlie Simpson Danley.

Ellis was a retired tobacco farmer, a member of the Copeland Ruritan Club and a member of New Home Church of Christ. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and a member of the American Legion Post of Mount Airy.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Maggie Atkins Danley of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Faye and Oliver Hudson and Vickie Danley, all of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, L. Ray and Linda Danley of Dobson and Russell and Barbara Danley of Rural Hall; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mamie Dollyhigh of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Aubrey and Rachel Danley of Mount Airy; a special niece, Wilma Simpson of Dobson; and a special friend, Denise Ward of Dobson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Danley was preceded in death by one sister, Christine Atkins, and two brothers, Elbert Danley and Monroe Danley.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at New Home Church of Christ. The service will be conducted by Brother Walt Wilson, Dr. Teague Groce, and the Rev. Don Hayes, with burial in the Turkey Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Moody Funeral Home of Dobson, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
