Alice De Volder, the first child of Camiel De Volder and Emma Staes, was born in Belgium. In 1902 their family immigrated to the United States and settled in Moline of the Quad Cities area, where they had three more children; Adolph, Clara, and Edna.
Alice married Alois Tanghe in 1914 and had her only two daughters; Margaret and Irene. After her first husband passed unexpectedly, she married her second husband, Harry William Green. Unfortunately Harry also passed prematurely at age 45. Her final marriage, which lasted twenty four years, was to Leopold Timmerman in 1951.
