US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the US House of Representatives from Pennsylvania for two consecutive terms from January 1943 until his resignation in July 1946. Born in Avoca, Pennsylvania he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1926 and from the law department of the same university in 1929. From 1934 until 1941 he served as assistant district attorney of Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.. In 1942 he was elected to Congress, serving until he resigned in July 1946 to become judge of the US District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. In June 1955 he became chief judge and served in that capacity until his death in Scranton, Pennsylvania at the age of 59.
