The notice of Charity's death in the local newspaper stated briefly: "Died in South Bend on March 17th, of Consumption, Charity M. Studebaker, wife of C. Studebaker, Esq., aged 32 years, 8 months, and 12 days."

On the next day Clement issued printed funeral invitations informing friends and acquaintances that Elder Ira Corwin would conduct services at Clem's Michigan Street residence.

An obituary in The Gospel Visitor was slightly longer and contained a poem by Clement's brother-in-law, Rev. George Witwer, husband of Clem's sister Elizabeth.

"Died in South Bend, Ind., March 17, of consumption, CHARITY M STUDEBAKER, wife of Clement Studebaker, and daughter-in-law of John and Rebecca Studebaker, formerly of Ohio, aged 32 years, 8 months, 12 days. Funeral services by Elder Corwin of the Baptist persuasion."

"Dear companion, thou hast left me,
Here thy loss I deeply feel;
But 'tis God that has bereft me,
He can all my sorrows heal."

Charity was one of six known issue of Jacob and Charity (FRANCISCO) BRATT. That Charity's sister Amanda named her son Clement Studebaker WEATHERWAX, c1862-c1952, (F-A-G Memorial #23645685) indicates the positive relationship Clement likely had with the Bratt family during, and possibly after, marriage to his first wife.
