Sudden Death of Leo Sweeney, Former Orton Twp., Pioneer
Leo Sweeney of Long Prairie died on the bus between Detroit Lakes and Wadena last Saturday while enroute to his home from the Veterans Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.
Mr. Sweeney was apparently feeling somewhat better and was allowed to leave the hospital for his home, when death suddenly struck.
He was a veteran of World War I and had been in poor health for some time. He was a former resident of Orton township and was a brother to of Mrs. Peter Westra and Clifford Sweeney of this community.

LEO SWEENEY, FORMER RESIDENT OF COUNTY BURIED AT LONG PRAIRIE

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning of last week in Long Prairie for Leo Sweeney of that city, a former Wadena county resident, who died Friday, December 12 on a bus between Detroit Lakes and Wadena while returning from the Fargo Veteran's hospital. The Rev. George Rauch of Long Prairie officiated at the last rites, and interment was in St. Mary's cemetery with full military rites.
According to passengers on the bus, Mr. Sweeney was all right at Detroit lakes. Passengers noticed a short time later that he had gone to sleep and nothing unusual was discovered until the bus reached Wadena.. Death was due to a heart attack.
Leo Morris Sweeney was born at LeCenter, Minn., on May 19, 1890, the son of John and Ellen Sweeney. He grew to manhood in that community and in 1909 moved to Orton township, Wadena county. On July 6, 1927, he was married in St. Peter to Eda Prytz. They lived in this county until 1940 when they moved to Bertha, and in 1943 they moved to Long Prairie.
He served for three years in the Navy during World War I, and after his discharge spent considerable time in veterans hospitals.
Surviving are Mrs. Sweeney, and one daughter, Kathleen, of Long Prairie. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: John od Sarles, N.D., Raymond of Browns Valley, Joseph, Clifford and Mrs. Peter Westra of Sebeka, and Mrs. Eric Tappe of Keewatin.
