George A. Lettenberger, age 70, of 1606 S. 14th Street, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, December 8, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.

He was born on December 17, 1940 in Manitowoc, son of the late Alphonse and Marie (Larger) Lettenberger. George was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1960. He then served with the United States Army for four years stationed in Korea as a helicopter mechanic. On September 22, 1978 he married the former Susan Haase in the State of Michigan. George was employed with Wisconsin Fuel & Light for 35 years as a regulator technician, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659, American Legion Post #88 and the Manitowoc Yacht Club. Survivors include his wife: Susan Lettenberger, Manitowoc; a son and daughter-in-law: Brett & Carrie Lettenberger, Sheboygan; two daughters and sons-in-law: Amy & Steven Basler, Two Rivers, Tiffany & Jesse Kinzel, Valders; four grandchildren: Payton & Porter Lettenberger, Autumn & Summer Basler; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Thomas & Ruby Lettenberger, Santa Maria, California, Audrey Lettenberger, Bella Vista, Arkansas; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law: Stephen & Kim Petreshock, Casa Grande, Arizona, George Haase Jr., Chicago, Illinois, Dennis Petreshock, Manitowoc; and a special cousin: Joanne Hady, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister-in-law: Paul Lettenberger, John & Leona Lettenberger, Elmer Lettenberger; a sister and brother-in-law: Patricia & Raymond DeCeasre; his step father-in-law and mother-in-law: Stephen & Shirley Petreshock and his father-in-law: George Haase Sr. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Felton with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2011. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7:00 p.m. led by Deacon Alan Boeldt. Visitation will continue Monday morning at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 9:00 a.m. until morning prayers at 10:30 a.m.

George was an avid follower of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. He was a staple with his breakfast buddies every Monday morning at the Golden Flame. George was an amateur photograher, a perfectionist, mr. fix it, fisherman and a bad joke teller. He enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren. George always enjoyed taking his partner in crime, Payton down to watch the S.S. Badger come in to port.

George was a loving husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. He will be deeply missed by Susan, Amy, Steve, Brett, Carrie, Tiffany, Jesse, Autumn, Summer, and his best friends Payton and Porter.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and first responders of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, and St. Vincent Hospital Critical Care Unit.
