Gaylord D. Hake, 76, of 1127 Bellaire Drive died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 26, 1998, in Med Central, Mansfield Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born June 7, 1921 in Piqua to the late Gordon F. and Marguerite D. Seng Hake and came to Mansfield in 1949. Mr. Hake attended Wittenberg University and during WWII served in the US Army 11th Airborne Division in Japan. He retired in 1986 as Exectuve News Editor of the Mansfield News Journal, serving the paper 37 years. He was a member of the Linden Road Presbyterian Church, serving the congegation as Elder and member of the Board of Trustee.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Damoff Hake, whom he married October 6, 1952; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Kristen Hake of Lombard, IL; a daughter, Laura Hake McAllister of Sarasota, FL; a granddaughter, Delaney Hake; three brothers, Gordon Hake, Jr. of Lancaster, Robert Hake of Fort Loramie, and George Hake of Columbus; and a sister, Elaine Moniaci of Berkley, MI.

Friends may call Sunday, March 1, 1998 from 7-8 PM in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Linden Road Presbyterian Church, 160 South Linden Road, Mansfield. His pastor, the Rev. Lewis J. VanderNaald, will officiate. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contribution to the Linden Road Presbyterian Church may be made at the funeral home."
