HERBERT J. SCHIESL

Herbert J. Schiesl, age 87, a resident of St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc, died Monday evening, Sept. 13, 2004, at the home.

Herbert was born July 31, 1917, in Whitelaw, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Licht Schiesl. On Aug. 28, 1940, he married the former Delphine M. Lallensack in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death Dec. 30, 1997. Herbert was employed at Manitowoc Shipyards and Kelvinator Commercial Products for many years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and the choir at St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law: Diane and Gerald Schmidt, Two Rivers; Marie and Sheldon Hynek, Manitowoc; Carol and Dale Holly, Shoto; Sharon and Fred Jehle, Ahoskie, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law: Ronald and Carol Schiesl, West Bend; Eugene and Linda Schiesl, Appleton; 18 grandchildren: Lori (Stephen) Krumberger, Joseph Mellberg, Jeffrey (Debbie) Schmidt, Michael Hynek, Chris Hynek, Lisa (Michael) Willman, Jeannie (Ron) Mrotek, Linda (Mark) Messer, David (Amy) Klein, Donald (Heather) Klein, Nathan Klein, Michael (Julie) Jehle, Patrick Jehle, Tracy (Jack) Guelle, Troy (Stacy) Schiesl, Joshua Schiesl, Ian (Sheila) Schiesl, Neil Schiesl; 13 great-grandchildren: Adam and Jacob Krumberger, Courtney and Cassidy Mrotek, Collin Willman, Joseph and Aaron Messer, Jacob Craig, Hannah and Tyler Schiesl, Drizzt Schiesl, Terra Reynolds and Shannon Rasmussen; five sisters-in-law: Bernadine Schiesl, Lorraine Lallensack, Gladys Lallensack and Beatrice Lallensack, all of Manitowoc; and Rose Lallensack, Port Washington; and three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law through marriage: Victor Lallensack and his wife, Angie, Manitowoc; George Lallensack and his wife, Lucille, Osman; and Arden Koehler, Kewaunee. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by a son: Gerald R. Schiesl, killed in Vietnam; a granddaughter: Christine Schmidt; three sisters: Elizabeth Zipperer, Ida Schiesl and Mary Schmatz; six brothers: Ed, Joseph, George, Nicholas, Frank and Rueben; and also brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Camillus Janas O.F.M. with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends Thursday evening, Sept. 16, 2004, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center from 5 to 8 p.m. where a prayer service will be led by Sister Renee Delvaux at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday morning at St. Andrew Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.

For the last four years, Herbert made his home at St. Mary's Nursing Home. During this time he acquired a second family - the staff and volunteers of St. Mary's. Here he acquired new hobbies, including bowling, where he frequently had the highest score. Although Herbert's family scattered across the state and country, he was always in their thoughts and knew he was being cared for by his "second family." Thank you to everyone at St. Mary's Home.
