Leonard J. (Curly) Witczak, 41, of 1510 S. 24th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday morning at Veterans Hospital, Milwaukee, where he had been a patient three weeks.

Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. Monday at Leschk-Bergner Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic church, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John S. Landowski officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Mr. Witczak was born Oct. 30, 1918, at Manitowoc, son of the late Andrew and Anna Strzyzewski Witczak. He was educated at St. Mary parochial school and Lincoln High school, Manitowoc, where he was graduated in 1937. He was junior class President in 1936. He married Mary Cihlar Sept. 13, 1939, at Oshkosh and lived at Manitowoc where he was a salesman for Terp Lincoln Mercury Co. since 1938. In the 1959 spring election he as an unsuccessful candidate for alderman of the 13th Ward, Manitowoc.

Previously he was employed by Sorge Ice Cream and Dairy Co. and played on the championship Sorge baseball team. He also played with the old Manitowoc Blues baseball team and with the Two Rivers team. He was a member of the Manitowoc and Two Rivers old Time Baseball clubs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus Council No. 710 and Holy Name Society of St. Mary Catholic Church. During World War II he was a radar man with the Navy in the South Pacific.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Susan Witczak of Manitowoc; two sons, William with the Navy in Pennsylvania and Douglas of Manitowoc; three brothers, Harry, Felix and Joseph of Manitowoc; six sisters, Mrs. Harry Zinkel, Mrs. Erwin Roberts and Mrs William Burton of Manitowoc, Mrs. Joseph Vondruska and Mrs. Albert Birr of Two Rivers and Mrs. LaVerne Erickson of Milwaukee.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Saturday where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday by Monsignor Landowski.
