Joseph (Papa Joe) Witczak, age 84, of 806 MacArthur Drive, Manitowoc, died early Friday morning, March 12, 1999, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March17, 1999, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian burial will be Rev. Roman Zbieranski O.F.M. with entombment to follow in Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
He was born February 9, 1915, in Manitowoc, son of the late Andrew and Anna Stryzewski Witczak. On March 4, 1935, he married the former Ruth Heinrichs at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The couple owned and operated Papa Joe’s Tavern in Manitowoc. Joe was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and also a member of United Commercial Travelers, and Manitowoc Knights of Columbus Council #710. He was an active member of the Manitowoc Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Leonard Boldt, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Mary Witczak, Appleton; nine grandchildren, Randy (Sharon) Boldt, Two Rivers, Ron (Trudy) Boldt, Valders, Chuck (Ellen) Boldt, Jeff (Tina) Boldt, Joe (Gail) Boldt, Spark (Sue) Boldt, Nancy (Joe) Blanke, all of Manitowoc; Julie Witczak, stevens Point, Jenny Witczak, Appleton; 18 great-grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Emily Zinkel, Manitowoc, Frances and Ervin Roberts, Manitowoc, Gertrude Vondruska, Two Rivers, Irene Burton, Manitowoc, and Harriet and LaVern Erickson, Milwaukee; three sisters-in-law, Mary Molitor, Manitowoc, Irene Lalko, Two Rivers, Florence (Howard) Scheuer, Appleton; one brother-in-law, Raymond (Emily) Heinrichs, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by three infant brothers, and also three other brothers, Hary, Curly, Felix, and one sister, Celia Birr.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, where a prayer service wil be held at 7 p.m. led by Deacon Robert Drobka.
