Gene was born on June 24, 1928, in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, Manitowoc County. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Erma (Shimek) Kaderabek. Gene attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1945. She was employed with clerical work at J.J. Stangel Hardware Company, White House Milk Company and the Manitowoc County Clerk's office from where she retired. On June 24, 1947, she married John E. Kane at St. James Catholic Church. Cooperstown. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2001. Gene was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law: Ruth Ann and Benno Steuer, Manitowoc; two sisters-in-law: Helen Kaderabek, Sun Prairie, WI; Kathleen Kaderabek, Maryland; also a dear special friend: Lillian Reedy; nieces and nephews of which four were her caregivers: Jim and Jane Kaderabek, Manitowoc; Jim and Kay Steuer, Manitowoc; along with other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: John Kane; brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dan Felton with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00.
Memorials may be made in Gene's name to Roncalli High School, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Chuch or to the Manitowoc County Historical Society.
