Arlene Schad, 73, of Kiel died Sunday evening, October 27, 2013 at Rivers Bend Nursing Home where she had been a resident since May. She was the former Arlene Koenig, born June 25, 1940 in the Town of Meeme, daughter of the late John & Angeline (Binversie) Koenig. Arlene attended St. Fidelis grade school and Bay Settlement Convent.

On August 25, 1962 she married Alfred "Fritz" Schad at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill. Together the couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig. Fritz preceded her in death on May 13, 1978.

Arlene later worked for AA Laun Furniture for 18 years until her retirement. She moved to Kiel in 1994.

Arlene was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. She was also very active with the Kiel Senior Center where she especially enjoyed playing cards. Arlene was a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill where she was a CCD teacher and was involved with the Christian Women. In her free time she enjoyed embroidering, taking walks, word puzzles and reading.

Survivors include her children; Laurie (Keith) Jandrey, New Holstein, Sister Veronica Schad, Manitowoc, Barb Gaedtke (Casey Stahl), Kiel, Craig (Cindy) Schad, School Hill, Joanne (Michael) O'Neil, School Hill, Lisa (Steve) Rathsack, Newton, Rose (Dean) Behnke, Reedsville, Wayne (Anna) Schad, Valders, Kevin (Christine) Schad, Kiel. 21 Grandchildren; Tina & Tim Jandrey, Heather Gaedtke, Kayla, Brianna, Cody & Nick Schad, Mike, Marty & Billy O'Neil, Josh & Olivia Rathsack, Desirae & Cambria Behnke, Karley (fiance Ben), Ava, Grace, & Madison Schad, Andrew, Taylor & Logan Schad. Arlene is further survived by her brothers; Roman Koenig, Kiel, Thomas (Marie) Koenig, School Hill, her sisters; Laura Wagner, New Holstein, Margaret (Donald) Bonde, Newton, Betty Bonde, School Hill & LaVerne (Roman) Karls, Green Bay. She is also survived by brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law; Francis Scharenbrach, Jerome Neumeyer, Alois Schad, Josephine Schaefer, Erv Madson, Glenroy (Brenda) Franzen, Delores Schad, Janice Schad, Helen Schad & Alice Koenig. Along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers; Victor, Robert & Sylvester Koenig, three sisters; Ruth Scharenbrach, Virginia Neumeyer & Anna Mae Stoelb along with numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Mass for Arlene will be held at 11:30am on Thursday October 31, 2013 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church (413 Fremont St. Kiel) with Rev. Loren Nys SDS officiating. Family and friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St. Kiel) on Wednesday October 30, 2013 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm and at the CHURCH on Thursday from 10:00am until 11:15am when we will have brief family rites. Burial will take place at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, School Hill.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Kiel Senior Citizens.

Arlene's family would like to extend their thanks to Ann & Bill Hoban, Frank & Connie Schad along with her many friends at Millview Apartments and the Senior Center for all their help and for taking such good care of her. They would also like to thank Aurora VNA Hospice, Dr. Max Haid and the staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Sheboygan and especially the special staff members at Rivers Bend for all the care and compassion shown to Arlene and her family.
