Obituary:

Velma Fay (Zirschky) Dean, daughter of the late Albert and Ruth (Ellis) Zirschky, was born on July 2, 1925, on a farm near Huggins, Missouri and departed this life on November 5, 2013, in Houston, Missouri following a long illness. She was 88 years, 4 months, and 3 days of age.

Fay attended grade school at Logan and graduated from Houston High School in 1944. After graduating from high school she worked in the laundry department at Fort Leonard Wood until the end of WWII then worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Mountain Grove.

Fay was united in marriage to Ralph Dean on July 3, 1947. Five children were born to this union. They lived for a short time in Kansas City and also spent some time living on a farm near Rayborn, Missouri. In 1950, they bought a home near Bendavis, Missouri where they enjoyed farming and raised their children. They moved to Houston, Missouri in 1993. Mr. Dean passed away in 2006.

The most important thing to Fay was her family. She always enjoyed spending time with them and having them visit her. She enjoyed sewing and would make matching outfits for her daughters. While her family was growing up, she always had a large garden where summers were spent working and canning everything she could to help feed her family. Fay gave her life to the Lord at an early age and was dedicated to serving God and putting Him first in her life. She enjoyed attending church and especially liked attending singing services with Ralph. Because of her decision to follow Christ, she is now reunited with her beloved husband and daughter.

Velma was a longtime member of the New Rock Springs Free Will Baptist Church at the time of her passing. Following her move to Houston, she attended the First Free Will Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the services and visiting with those around her.

Besides her parents and husband, Fay was preceded in death by a daughter: Janice Wood; two brothers: Howard Zirschky and Warren Zirschky; and two sisters: Jeaneta Pembrook and Thelma Perkins.

She is survived by three daughters: Virginia Clark-Wood and husband, Fred, of Houston, Missouri, Wanda Pointer and husband, Bob, of Republic, Missouri, and Donna Robertson and husband, Mike, of Bendavis, Missouri; one son: Donald Dean and wife, Cleta, of Houston, Missouri; three granddaughters: Angela Brooks, Jennifer Douglas, and Sarah Shelton; six great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
