Per his death certificate found on Ancestry.com: he was a son of J. T. LaMotte and Mary Beard. He was widowed at the time of his death and his spouse is not named. There is no exact DOB, it is given as about 1868. His age is given as 61. He was a civil engineer. He died at the S. C. State Hospital of acute pancreatitis and perforation of gastric ulcer. The informant was J. E. Brone of Columbia, S. C.

Found in The State 28 April 1929: A. Gamewell LaMotte, 61, died at 4:15 yesterday afternoon at a local hospital. Mr. LaMotte had lived in Columbia practically his entire lifetime. His many friends will regret to learn of his passing. He had been ill a long time.

Gamewell LaMotte, who died at a local hospital Saturday afternoon, will be buried at Elmwood cemetery Tuesday following services at Dunbar Funeral home at 11 o'clock. Mr. LaMotte had lived in Columbia most of his life and had many friends in the city. The Rev. R. A. Lapsley, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will be in charge of the service, and will be assisted by the Rev. A. L. Gunter, the Rev. A. N. Brunson.
