Richard Earl Oliver, 77, of Columbia passed away Friday, March 3, 2006, at Columbia Manor.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, at First Christian Church, 101 N. Tenth St., with Dr. John Yonker officiating. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Richard was born July 22, 1928, one of seven children born to Jacob Frank and Mary F. Allton Oliver. Richard attended Columbia Public Schools and graduated from Hickman High School in 1946. He later graduated from the University of Missouri in 1956, receiving a bachelor's degree in accounting, and served in the Army during the Korean War. On June 11, 1983, he married Nina Duren, and she survives.

He was a longtime member of First Christian Church, where he was a deacon, and he also was a member of Twilight Masonic Lodge, the Royal Arch Mason and the Centralia Council. Richard was employed by the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 1992. He was an avid follower of the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Missouri-Columbia Tigers.

Survivors include his wife; brothers Jack E. Oliver and J. Frank Oliver, both of Columbia; stepchildren Richard N. Long III of Tampa, Fla., Michael E. Long of Tampa and Kathryn Kozik of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, J. Harold Oliver, Charles Edward Oliver and William Owen Oliver; and one sister, Mary Frances Kuhlman of Mexico, Mo.
