He is likely the Wm. W. Adams found in the 1860 US Census for St. Pauls Parish, Colleton, SC at age 6 living with N B (Nathaniel), 39, Martha, 25, John, 9, Margaret E., 4, and James N., 1. He was born in SC. Note: the death certificate for John Quincy Adams, born 1856, who died in Charleston in 1924 and is buried in Bamberg, lists his parents as N. B. Adams and Mary Carrigg, both born in S. C.

Found in The State 09 July 1906: Capt. W. W. Adams, the ranking officer of the penitentiary guard and for 27 years a member of that command, died suddenly of apoplexy yesterday morning at 7:30 o'clock. He was 52 years of age, and came to Columbia from Barnwell county to accept a position as private on the force of guards at the State penitentiary. During that time, he had risen through the several grades of rank to the position of captain, to which he was appointed several years ago. Captain Adams had been in poor health for a year or more, but he was apparently in his usual health when he arose yesterday morning. After going out on his front piazza, he was returning into the house when he was stricken and fell before aid could reach him, although the members of his family who were near, hurried quickly to his side. He is survived by his widow and four children, Misses Louise, Estelle, Mamie and Arthur, and two brothers, George W. Adams of this city and John Q. Adams of Bamberg, and one sister, Mrs. E. W. Phifer of Salisbury. Captain Adams was a prominent member of the Masons and Knights Templar. He was president of the Clerks' union and speaker of the Union Fraternity league. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Church of the Good Shepherd, of which he was a member. Services at the grave in Elmwood cemetery will be conducted by the Knights Templar.

Note: his stone is the one in the middle.
