Samuel Watson Rice passed away at the Holy Family hospital yesterday morning at 8 o’clock. He was 63 years old and came to this city from Monmouth, Ill, a number of years ago. He leaves five daughters: Mrs. Chester Jenks, Monmouth, Ill, Mrs. Jack Lafferty, Chicago, Mrs. Vern Mitchell, New York City, Mrs. Ross Downey, South Bend and Mrs. Cal Casler of this city, a son, Edward Rice of South America and a foster son, Lawrence Baker of New York City. His wife died seven years ago and one son died in infancy. Deceased was a member of the Christian church and services will be conducted by Rev. M.G. Long in the Decker chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with interment at Pine Lake Cemetery. -The LaPorte Herald Argus, October 13, 1924.
