She attended Normal School at Emporia. She was the teacher of Marion County School District #95 (Sunnyside) in the 1901-02 school year. In 1902-03 she taught at School District #36 (Hochfield) where she had a 4 month contract and a salary of $45.00. She taught for a total of seven years in the rural schools and in the City of Hillsboro.
From her childhood, she was a member of the Evangelical Church, transferring her membership to the Methodist Church at the time of her marriage. For many years she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the W.S.C.S, and the Bon Amite Bible Class. She was also a member of the W.C.T.U. and the Dawn Club.
In 1905 they purchased their first home at 223 North Cedar Street, and this house remained the family home for 59 years. After her husband died she continued to live in Marion until May, 1964. She then moved to Hotchkiss, Colorado, to make her home with her daughter. She suffered a stroke a couple of days before her death, but had been in frail condition for some time.
