GREENSBORO - Mr. Clarence Ardeyne Burton, 83, of 1921 K 106 New Garden Road, died on Friday, January 26, 2007, at Beacon Place.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 29, at Forbis & Dick North Elm Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Burton was retired from Burlington Industries. He was a member of Madison United Methodist Church, Methodist Men's Club, Madison Rotary Club and a Sunday School Teacher. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, as a staff sergeant. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. A member of the U.S. Tennis Association and he was an avid player and he won numerous medals and trophies, including a Gold Medal in the 2003 N.C. Senior Olympics and a Bronze Medal in the 1999 N.C. Senior Olympics.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Burton of the home; four daughters, Sheryl B. Cajigal of Richmond, Va., Libby B. Gabriel and husband, Richard of Greensboro, Margaret B. Gatewood and husband, Hal of Claremont and Sylvia B. Schnople and husband, Joey of Conover; six grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth Gabriel, Richard Weisner Gabriel, Jr., Trey Gatewood, Jarrod Gatewood, Elizabeth Ann Dunn and Julia Marie Morrison; one great grandson, Curtis Stutts and his loving pet, Daisy the dachshund.
