Interment and committal services will follow at the St. Joseph Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 22nd, beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
Mrs. Hughes was born April 25, 1925 in Columbia, Louisiana and she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at her home in Bastrop on December 20, 2013.
Mrs. Helen Hughes was an active member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and served as church and school secretary for over forty-five years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugo Hughes; her parents, Louis DeBlieux and Ozet Perot DeBlieux; brothers, J.D., Lester, and Louis DeBlieux, Jr.; sisters, Nita D. Brinson, Peggy D. Cayer, and Mildred DeBlieux.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter, Sue Gewin Jex and her husband, Steve of Bastrop; a granddaughter, Stacy Lee, M.D., her husband, Michael Lee, M.D., and their children, Abigail Lee and Hayden Lee all of Shreveport, Louisiana; four brothers, James, W.V. and wife, Joy, Johnny and wife, Wilmadell, and Robert DeBlieux all of Bastrop; three sisters, Alma D. Honeycutt and husband, Kenneth of Mer Rouge, Louisiana, Tina Stephenson of Monroe, Louisiana, and Lois D. Compton of Benton, Arkansas. Mrs. Hughes is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
Serving as pallbearers are Glen Hendrix, Carl Brodnax, Danny DeBlieux, Danny Hickingbottom, Ricky Boone, and Jerry Honeycutt.
