BURIAL WAS PRIVATE, NO CEMETERY GIVEN

A memorial service and mass celebrating the life of Alma DeBlieux Honeycutt will be held 2:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2019 with visitation from 12:00 till 2:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bastrop, La with Rev. Dr. Joseph Kuzhichalil and Deacon Marc Vereen officiating. Private interment will be held on a future date.

Surrounded by her family and husband Kenneth, Alma passed away peacefully Monday, August 26, 2019. She was 96 years young.

Alma Louise DeBlieux was born on March 22, 1923 in Columbia, La. An honor student graduate of Bastrop High School in 1942, she soon received a business education degree from Bish Mathis Institute in Monroe.

She married her sweetheart, Mer Rouge native Kenneth Honeycutt on April 27, 1944 and soon began working as a medical assistant for Drs. Joe B. and Guy Williams in Mer Rouge. She is most recently and fondly remembered for her years as a Clerk and Postmaster at the Mer Rouge Post Office from 1960 until her retirement in 1985.

A love of helping others led her to serve in many charitable and local civic organizations. She was often recognized with honors for her dedication to community service, as she was actively involved in the DAR, United Way and Mer Rouge Community Chest. She was founder of the Oak Woods Nursing Home "TWIGS", an organization focused on the personal needs of the residents, and co-founded the Morehouse Cancer Fund. Alma enjoyed leadership roles on the boards of the Rose Theater, Monroe Little Theater, American Cancer Society, Salvation Army, Morehouse Crippled Children's Association and American Mother's Association, and was a member at large for the VFW, American Legion and Chenault Aviation Museum. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister.

Alma is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 75 years, Kenneth Honeycutt, children, Jerry Honeycutt and wife Carolyn of West Monroe, Kathy Hickingbottom and husband Danny of Bastrop, Kenny Honeycutt of Monroe, Debbie Kuehne and husband Bruce of Baton Rouge, Mary Honeycutt of Bastrop, and Joseph Honeycutt and wife Billie Jo of Bastrop; her 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Tina Stephenson of Monroe and brothers, W.V., Johnny and Robert DeBlieux, all of Bastrop.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Honore Louis and Ozet Perot DeBlieux of Bastrop and nine brothers and sisters.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, Danny and Clark Hickingbottom, Craig and Casey Honeycutt and Kelly Hearn, Ricky and Grayson Choppin, Chance and Cole Honeycutt, and Chris and Ryan Harris.

The family extend special acknowledgment to Drs. Ronald Hubbard, Greg Sampognaro and David Pruett, caregivers, Mrs. Alma Plumley and Ms. Renita Morgan, and the staff of Premiere Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ms. Alma's memory made to the charity or church of your choice are especially appreciated.
