Ruth (Blackwell) Smith, 97, formerly of Greer, SC, widow of Roscoe Smith, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Oakmont East Nursing Center.

A native of Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Robert R. and Cecilia (Gosnell) Blackwell.

A retired textile employee of Apalache Mill, she was a member of Greer Church of God.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Hindman of Travelers Rest; a son, Bobby Smith of Cross Hill; a brother, Eldridge Blackwell of Greer; six sisters, Alaree Armstrong and Maggie Armstrong, both of Greenville, Iva Wood of Blue Ridge, Tennie Scroggs of Greenville, and Hilda Morris and Frances Stewart, both of Greer; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was predeceased by four brothers, Woodrow Blackwell, Virgil Blackwell, Durham Blackwell, and Grover Blackwell; and by one sister, Bertha B. Lance Anders.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Greer Church of God, conducted by Rev. Leon Parker and Rev. Bobby Duncan. Burial followed in Wood Memorial Park.

The body was placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Visitation was held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Wood Mortuary.
