As a teenager, she had a partnership in Vaudeville called Haddon and Hall which played local theaters. Then at 17, she got the part as an extra in Gone with the Wind. If you take a look at the party they hold at the beginning of the movie, you can see her close up. That led to 42nd Street and all the Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movies. At one time, she was the only dancer under a 52-week contract at Warner's. Then she went to England with five other girls and was the act at the Dorchester Hotel. Harriet appeared in various films as a dancer.
Then to New York at the St. Regis hotel for 2 years where she met her future husband Hilliard Marks who was there with the Jack Benny show. Their first date was New Year's Eve either 1939 or 1940 at Jack's house. They dated for 2 years and got married at Jack's house in 1942. They had two children, Phillip Haddon Marks and Victoria Jessica.
She continued working, making $75 per week which was good money then. She quit just before she got pregnant with their son Phillip in 1948. Before her death, Harriet said she had no regrets, which is a wonderful way to feel.
