The family already has a civil war monument for Shadrick, They were wanting to go back up there, to place the monument, since the weather has gotten cooler. The cemetery was so grown up when they were there last, that they have not put the monument in place as yet.
Shadrick Marshall went through the Civil War in which he was injured from capp'n ball, from enemy fire. His life was saved because of his metal box, however, his hip was injured. He was able to draw a pension of $90 per month. Some bushwakers came by his place, and burned his feet & legs off in his own Fireplace, which resulted in the taking of his life.

The pronunciation of his name per family is Shade-Drick. Census takers were not the best spellers.
