Carlton F. Roof
Carlton F. Roof, 69, for more than a decade caretaker on the state-highways in the Hydetown-Centerville area, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday after an illness of two weeks. Death occurred in the Titusville Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week.

Mr. Roof was born in Indiana county on November 26, 1878, a son of the late Austin and Margaret Mars Roof. The moved to Gresham while he was young.

He married Alice Pearl Colburn at Colt Station, Erie County, on Oct., 17, 1900. He leaves his wife and three children, Irene, wife of Loyal L. Hawthorn of Buffalo; Eva, wife of Edward R. Coonly of Route 1, Titusville, and Arthur C. Roof of Franklin.

There are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and the following brothers and sisters: George W. Roof of Corry, Mrs. Tillie Root of Titusville, Mrs. Olive Clark of Tecumseh, Michigan, and Mrs. Sarah Adams of Polk.

He and his family lived in Titusville until 10 years ago when they moved to Hydetown and three years ago he purchased the Ames farm at the top of Bog Hollow Hill, where he had since resided. Mr. Roof has been a foreman on road work since the WPA days when his ability so pleased the High-way department that he was made a regular caretaker.

Mr. Roof was a genial and accommodating friend and neighbor and a kind and thoughtful husband and father. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Titusville.

The body is at the Peterson funeral home, where friends may call and where funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Addison Pero, assisted by Rev. P.C. Millard will officiate and interment will be in Woodlawn.
