My Uncle

ALVIN "EARL" BROWN, SR 1928-2018 age 90

Alvin "Earl" Brown was born at 2 A.M. on the 2nd of April 1928 at home, 144 South Harlan Street, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana the 2nd child and son of Roy Theodore Brown, SR 1904-1974 and his Wife, Mary "Hazel" COFFMAN Brown 1907-1988.

Earl's Father, Roy and Mother, Hazel Brown were the Parents of:
1 - Roy Theodore Brown, JR 1926-2014
2 - Alvin "Earl" Brown 1928-2018
3 - Dorothy Christiana Brown 1929–2007
4 - Ernest "Ernie" Leon Brown 1933–2005
5 - Marlene LaVonne Brown 1936–2007
6 - Ronald Lee Brown 1942–living 2018

On the 20 of April 1946, Alvin "Earl" Brown, SR married Lydia Ella CIRIELLO 1928-2016, daughter of Antonio "Tony" Ciriello 1884–1968 and his wife, Lola Muriel Everling 1897–1971. Alvin Earl Brown and Lydia Ciriello were married in a Double Wedding ceremony with his brother, Pete and Phyllis Widdifield - BOTH couples, as well as his parents, celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversaries! Pete and Phyllis Brown were married a total of 53 yrs, 9 months while Earl and Lydia Brown celebrated their Outstanding - 70th Anniversary!! on April 20, 2016.

Earl and Lydia Brown were the Parents of two children:
(1) Alvin Earl Brown, JR
(2) Darla Jeanne Brown

Earl and his Dad, Roy Brown joined the Murat Shriners a group that supports 22 Childrens Hospitals in the United States, Canada and Mexico, that provides world class treatment for children with orthopedic, spina bifida, cleft palate, neurological and burn needs at no cost to the families and transportation is provided to and from appointments. The black and white photo of Earl was taken at the Thaddesu Hiram Stoneciphares Class 85th Semi Annual Convocation & Reunion in December 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Earl and his three brothers were employed with the Roy T Brown Plumbing Company owned by his Father for many years, then worked for Frank Irish Plumbing where he became a member of Local 440 Steam and Pipefitters Union of Indianapolis. Earl and his brothers also went into the custom home business, Brown and Brown Builders, and built several homes around the far north side of Indianapolis. By the way, did I mention the "Work-aholic Gene runs in the Brown Family?!! Ha,ha!

The Brown Family LOVED fishing!! Roy Brown, SR owned a cottage at Loon Lake in northern Indiana where they went about every weekend during the summer. They even made their own boats! That's right, cut out the wood, sealed, fiber-glassed, had some really nice boats to use for fishing. They built their own dock and large floating dock at the end to fish from. It was a lot of fun for all of our families!! You could always be guaranteed the 500 race would be played loud outside so they could keep up with the races while they fished on Memorial Day.

Lydia Ella CIRIELLO Brown died on the 10th of July 2016 leaving poor Earl a Widower after 70 years of marriage. Lydia always worried about what would happen to Earl if she should die first and was so sure that Earl would pass away soon afterwards because he was so dependent on her. Surprisingly, as of the 23rd of August 2017, Earl at age 89, lives with kidney dialysis, diabetes, and heart problems, and is still a strong willed man and is living with his daughter, Darla and her family in Florida. Just like the "Duracell Bunny" whose batteries never run out, "The Browns" are known to keep going, and going, and going!! Earl moved back home to an assisted living place in Indiana where he died on the 19th of July 2018. He was buried at Washington Park East Cemetery located on the east side of Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Earl and Lydia both share a Mausoleum there.
