Died at age 69 years, 4 months.

Nelson C Butler, 69, died at his home on Wells street Monday morning. He had been in failing health for about three years, and since April had not been able to work. Mr. Butler was a son of Peter [& Lydia (Neslon) Butler] of Shelburne and had been a resident of Greenfield for many years.

He started work for the John Russell Cutlery Co. of Greenfield and when the works moved to Turners Falls, continued to work for that corporation and was in their employ for 40 years. He was an expert mechanic and a skillful die sinker. He invented and had patented the Butler chuck, which is being manufactured by the Butler Chuck Co. of which F. J. Hosmer and J. H. Sanderson are at the head. Mr. Butler was prominent in the work of the Methodist church. At his death he was a member of the official board and one of the trustees, and until a short time ago was collector and was a thorough-going and consistent Christian.

He leaves besides his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Grace von Schluembach of Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. F. P. Hosmer of Greenfield, Miss Clara I. Butler of Providence, R. I., and one son, Carl Nelson Butler of Greenfield. He also leaves a brother, Calvin L. Butler of Greenfield, and four sisters, Mrs. S. A. Elmer, Mrs. M. Elmer, Mrs. Lydia C. Brooks and Mrs. C.D.
