Nell Ponder Age 86 years, seven months and 18 days, a resident of East Prairie, passed away, Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 3:10 am in the East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born October 20, 1927 in Camden, Tennessee to the late John Herman & Lillie Mae McMurtry Bain, Nell lived most of her life in Mississippi County. She was a member of the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in East Prairie. On March 5, 1933 in East Prairie she married Eugene F. (Gene) Ponder who survives of the home.

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret & Tony Childers of East Prairie and Barbara & Jim Speights of Springfield, Missouri; one brother, George Bain of East Prairie; three sisters, Ann, Retha and Sue Bain all of East Prairie; seven grandchildren, Jay (Brooke) Childers, Dawn (Kevin) Walters, Katie (Joe) Harter, Kara & Karla Speights, and Bain & Bailey Turnbo; five great-grandchildren, Blakelee & Chase Childers, Kelsey & Cooper Walters and Winrey Harter; and a host of relatives and many friends.

Besides her parents, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen & Ty Turnbo; two brothers, John Herman and O.C. Bain; two sisters, Bealus Summerlott and Mary Bain also preceded Nell in death.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Monday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church with Bro. Brian Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Larry Duke, Larry Thresher, Coy Redfering, Butch McHaney, Brad Smith and Gary Adkisson.
