Ila Belle (Young) Miller was born April 14, 1925 to Birdsall and Opal (Payne) Young at their home in the Arickaree community. She passed away peacefully in her home in Sterling on June 30. Ila graduated from High Prairie High School in 1943. She was recruited to Kansas from college in Greeley to teach in the rural schools. Ila married Willard Miller in St. Francis, Kansas on December 24, 1944. Ila and her husband were 4-H leaders for many years. In 1959 they converted to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She leaves two daughters Linneta (Charles) Wiedeman of Illinois and Deanna Cook of Utah; one son Willard (Teresa) Miller Jr. of Denver; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; two sisters, Loverne Brown of Akron, and Evelyn Whisman of Littleton; two brothers, Birdsall (Darlene) Young, and Vernon (Coral) Young of Yuma. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, daughter Carolyn, granddaughter Faelyn Cook, sister Lorraine Perry, sister Fay Axsom, brother Ralph Young, and son in-law Glen A Cook. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sterling. Interment will follow at the Akron Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the Plains.
