Lorainne Rose (Young) Perry, 84, a lifetime Washington County resident, died Sunday at the Yuma Life Care Center after a brief stay there.
Mrs. Perry was born in a two-room farmhouse near Arickaree Nov. 23, 1921, to Edmond Birdsall Sr. and Opal (Payne) Young. Her childhood was spent attending one-room country schools and living on farms rented by her parents.

In 1936, after her parents bought a farm near DeNova, she began attending High Prairie High School and graduated in 1940.

She married Wayne Perry Nov. 21, 1940, at her parents' home. They rented a farm, where they raised livestock and began their family together. They moved to Otis in early 1946. She helped with making a living by raising chickens in the backyard as well as growing vegetables in the garden.

In 1959, they moved to a farm southeast of Otis and then moved again in 1961 to a farm southwest of Otis where she milked cows, fed calves and grew a large garden. She spent many hours caring for grandchildren during those years but still found time to do research and compile a family genealogy book which she had printed in 1980.

In 1984, they bought a retirement home in Otis were she spent many hours on scrapbooks, photo albums, quilt making and Bible study.

She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Yuma.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne, and her five children, Elvin, Eugene and Bruce, all of Otis, Gilbert of Brush and Bernard of Milliken; three brothers, Ralph Young of Grand Junction, Birdsall Young Jr. of Akron and Vernon Young of Yuma; three sisters, Lovernne Brown of Akron, Evelyn Whisman-Piper of Denver and Ila Belle Miller of Sterling; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Fay Axsom, and one granddaughter, Sherry.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Otis Cemetery Association.

Funeral services will be held at the Nazarene Church in Yuma at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Terry W. Douglass officiating, assisted by Steve Perry. Interment will follow in the Otis Cemetery with Brenner Funeral Home of Akron directing the arrangements.
