Her two sisters and her brother moved to the Pacific Northwest, but Eva remained in Rock County. She married Fred Boardman Child on June 7, 1885. They had no children, but they did help raise their nephew Fred Lynch, son of her sister Mate. Fred remained close to his Aunt Eva for the rest of her life and was with her at the time of her death. He was a well-known Irish tenor and the star attraction of Seattle's KOMO Radio in the 1920s.
Eva was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and became the Supreme Oracle of the Royal Neighbors of America, a women’s philanthropic organization. Eva founded the Janesville, Wisconsin chapter of the Royal Neighbors of America in 1899, and it is still active more than a century later.
Eva rose quickly in the ranks. After a decade of steady activism on behalf of women, she was named chairman and “Supreme Manager” of the Royal Neighbors of America. In the fall of 1913 she took a much heralded tour of Royal Neighbor organizations in Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon, where she visited her sisters Mate and Nellie. In 1917 she was elevated to “Supreme Oracle”- the top position in the national organization. Eva’s plans to travel to Oregon in May, 1924 were announced by the Morning Oregonian three months in advance. She would be there to help celebrate the silver jubilee of Portland’s Royal Neighbor Chapter; but also to visit her sister Nellie.
