A devoted and gracious disciple of Jesus was given her angel wings on Tuesday, July 7, 2014, when Alice Agnes Margaret Powers Delaney, 92, was called to heaven to share her eternal life with God. Alice was born on Dec. 20, 1921, to George and Alice Powers.

She attended Catholic schools, graduating from Butte's Girls Central High School in 1939. She then attended and graduated from Butte Business College.

She held positions at Hennessy's Department Store, Chappell's Hardware Store and the Anaconda Mining Co., where she met James L. Delaney. They were married on Jan. 28, 1949, and lived in Portland, Ore., while Jim attended college. While in Portland, they were blessed with the first two of their eight daughters. After Jim's graduation, they returned to Butte. Alice worked at Treasure State Life Insurance and later at

St. James Community Hospital, where she worked for 22 years, retiring in 1987.

After retirement, Alice volunteered for the RSVP program, becoming a "grandma" for the Butte Alternative School. She was a life-long learner and enjoyed researching naturopathic health, computers and Butte history and finance. She loved to scour estate sales andcollect antiques to fill her home. For many years, she attended a crafts class through the Butte High continuing education program and made many close friends while there. She loved being part of her grandchildren's' lives and enjoyed reading about their accomplishments in sports and education in the papers. She was so proud of each of them.

Her complete devotion to the Catholic faith was her source of strength and her guide to life.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; infant brothers, George and William; her husband, Jim; and her daughter, Jane Marie Kraus.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Delaney, Patty Cohlhepp (John), Peggy Delaney Poese (Rick), Leanne Orlich (Jim), Beth Zobenica, Nancy Delaney-Smith (Anthony) and Michelle Cislo (Jeff); grandchildren, Adrian Hodder (Kevin) , Meagan (Jeff) Beckett,

Ed Cohlhepp, Blake Cohlhepp, Gina Zobenica and Katie Cislo; step-grandchildren, Teresa Nino (Blake) and Chris Poese; great-grand-children, Nicholas and Addison Hodder, Piper and Paige Beckett and Grace and Faith Nino;
sisters, Betty Bowden and Mary Kay Pearce; brother, Joseph Powers; special nieces Bonnie DeMott and Harriett Talmadge; and special friend, Sharon Garwood.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jake Taverna and his nurse, Cheryl, the staff of Marquis Vintage Suites and her special granddaughter, Meagan Beckett, for their loving care and attention during the past few years.

Visitation for Alice will be after 5 p.m. Thursday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where parish rosary services will be recited at 7 p.m.
Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Rockies or the Butte Food Bank.
