Daniel was the eighth of eleven children. On May 12, 1888, he married Elizabeth Clase in Shickshinny, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. M. E. Walker, Justice of the Peace, performed the ceremony. The couple had ten children: Rose May, Charles, Harry William, Elizabeth, Arthur, George, Roy, Ernest, Alvin Milton, and Alice Leona. He was employed by the Susquehanna Coal Company as a driver.
