She was born June 9, 1925, in Brown County, a daughter of Almy and Myrtle Hill Bump. She married Eugene Forsythe on March 11, 1946, and he died Sept. 15, 1987. She later married Lawrence Hornbuckle on Oct. 30, 1992, and he died on Jan. 3, 2005.
Virginia was a lifelong homemaker in Mount Sterling who enjoyed decorating and taking care of her little house, hosting or attending weekly coffees with her lady friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She attended Mount Gilead Primitive Baptist Church in Brown County for nearly her entire life.
She is survived by two sons, Genar (Elizabeth) Forsythe of Twin Oaks, Mo., and Dennis (Suzanne) Forsythe of Clayton; six grandchildren, Colin Forsythe of Troy, Valerie Forsythe of Alton, Brian (Erika) of Mokena, Brent (Christine) Forsythe of Camp Point, Bradley Forsythe of Athens, Ga., and Rebecca Forsythe of Kirksville, Mo.; as well as seven great-grandchildren and several nephews. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Pat (Stan) Etter of Mount Sterling and Linda Busen of Quincy, as well as five stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, O. J. and Genar Bump; four sisters, Cleora Koch, Nora Bump, Geneva Evans and Naomi Surratt; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Forsythe; a niece, Connie Pruitt; and a stepson, David Shoopman.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling, with the Elder Alan Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Hersman Cemetery, south of Mount Sterling.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services in the Hendricker Funeral Home,.
