JOHN L. STEDL

John L. Stedl, 40, of Rt. 2, Greenleaf, took his life Friday.
Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kalisek will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Military rites at graveside will be conducted by Kubale-O'connel VFW Post of Cato of which he was a member.

He was born July 4, 1919, in the Town of Morrison, Brown county, son of the late Matt and Annie Mancoski Stedl. He was graduated from East Wayside elementary school. Oct. 18, 1941, he married the former Catherine Coben of the Town of Morrison. He entered military service Oct. 16, 1942, and served overseas in the European Theater as an ambulance driver in the medical corps where he was awarded the silver star for gallantry in action. He was discharged Aug. 19, 1945, and the couple settled on the Stedl homestead. He was employed by Manitowoc Engineering Corp., Manitowoc, and was a member of Machinists Local 516.

Surviving are his wife; mother, Mrs. Annie Stedl of Wayside; five sons, John, Patrick, Larry, Terry and Timothy at home; four daughters, Sandra of Manitowoc and Lois, Linda and Lou Ann at home; two brothers, Leonard of Rt. 3, Pulaski and Raymond of Rt. 2, Greenleaf; four sisters, Mrs. Matt Kubsch of Manitowoc, Mrs. Joseph Bauman of Denmark, Mrs. John Jagodinsky of Milwaukee and Mrs. Orin Manteufel of Appleton. He was preceded in death by his father in 1958 and a brother, Ambrose, killed in action in World War II.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
