Gilbert H. Borchardt, 86, Reedsville, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at home.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1923, in the town of Morrison to the late Rudolph and Hilda Loppnow Borchardt. Gilbert married Verna Loppnow on Sept. 14, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church, Morrison. Gilbert and Verna were privileged to celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary last year. He was a dairy farmer and also a carpenter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family. Gilbert was a member of the Branch River Buck Hunters Club, lifetime member of the Reedsville Sportsman Club, a member of Wayside Zion Church choir and served on various church boards.

Survivors include his wife: Verna; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Lloyd and Jody, Gary and Barb, Dale and Pat, Ronald; two daughters and one son-in-law: Carol and Gary Eichhorst and Sharon Buchholz; grandchildren: Brian Eichhorst, Tom Eichhorst, Amy and Jon Meidl, Tammy and Ross Buchinger, Bill and Cristy Borchardt, Jim and Cheri Borchardt, Becky and Matt Bobber, Joe Borchardt, Katie and Craig Zuleger, Jill and Abe Hassemer, Sarah Borchardt, Matt Buchholz and Kevin Buchholz; great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Alyssa and Jordan Meidl, Gracie and Cade Buchinger, Hannah and Carly Borchardt, Emma and Ellie Borchardt, Brody Bobber, Cora, Clara and Crista Zuleger and Danielle Hassemer; brothers and sisters-in-law: Wilbert and Caroline, Norbert, Marvin and Elaine, Meinhard and Carol; sisters: Lorina Fels, Luella Miller, Bernadine Lemke and Esther Lemke; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Arvilla Kuchenbecker, Florence Kuchenbecker, Wilmer and Barbara Loppnow, Norman Loppnow, Alberta Borchardt and Dorothy and Ron Zenke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother: Malinda (Koch) Borchardt; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Carl and Cora Loppnow; two brothers: Melvin and Edward Borchardt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, 8378 County Road W, Wayside, from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until time of service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Steven Kline officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
