Son of the late Solomon Benjamin and Fannie White Adams, he was the widower of Zelna Butler Adams. Additionally, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Truett, John Milton, Spencer, Max and Benjamin, and by a sister, Josephine Pierce. He was a farmer and a veteran of the United States Army (WWII). He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where his funeral was held on September 27, 2014, with The Rev. Dr. Gene Martin officiating. He was survived by his daughters, Connie A. Sherill (Joe) and Dale A. Williams (Chris); son, Craig Nelson Adams (Rebecca); grandchildren, Beau Williams, Ashley Williams and Arianna Adams; and an extended family of relatives and friends.
