Mabel Helen (Vogel) Lenz died in Kiel on October 20. Mabel was born in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, on December 9, 1925, fourth of the thirteen children of Arno and Hertha (Schmitt) Vogel. She married Alvis A. Lenz on November 29, 1943, in St. Peter's Reformed Church in Kiel, now St. Peter's United Church of Christ. They initially farmed on Marken Road, north of School Hill, then owned the Osman General Store. They tried their hand at a farm implement business in Osman, and then Mabel concentrated on raising her family, as well as vegetables and strawberries in a very large garden for roadside sale, grocery stores, and canning factories. After Al retired, they moved to Kiel. Mabel was known for her green thumb and her homemade bread; she loved to sew pictures, make quilts, go fishing, watch baseball, play cards, bake, and go gambling on the bus with friends.

She is survived by her four children: Jeanelle Bennin of rural Sheboygan Falls, Geraldine Lenz of Greenfield, Ronald (Cheryl) Lenz of Plymouth, MN, and Vicki Lenz (Randal Resch) of Menasha; five grandchildren: Kristl and Klaire Laux, R. Rick Resch, and Emilie and John Lenz. She leaves one sister, Elvira (Clarence) Richter of Elkhart Lake, one brother, Vernon (Agnes) Vogel of Kiel, sisters-in-law Loretta, Rosalie, and ElaineVogel all of Sheboygan, brother-in-law Keith Hassinger of Kiel, and many nieces and nephews.

Al preceded her in death on September 5, 2007. She was also preceded by her son-in-law Neil Bennin, her sisters Lucinda (Melvin) Happel, Elaine (Joseph) Lisowe, Ellen (Norman) Lehrke, Betty Ann Niemuth, and Judith Hassinger; her brothers Reuben Vogel, Arlen (Betty Jane) Vogel, Fred Vogel, Elroy Vogel, and Donald Vogel; sister-in-law Janice Vogel, brothers-in-law Arnold (Mary) Lenz, Norbert (Eileen) Lenz, and Clarence (June) Lenz, neices Gloria Lehman and Kathleen Lenz, nephews Duane Vogel and Randy Lisowe, grandniece Jessica Lehrke, and close friends Myrtle Kraemer and Lavern Hemb. Mabel had wonderful Kiel neighbors, in particular Judy Preder and Aleda Lisch. She was cared for during the past two years by the great staff at Oak Creek Assisted Living in Kiel. Funeral Services for Mabel will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 12:00 noon at St. James UCC, 13312 Pioneer Road, Newton with Rev. William Kesting officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
