He was born in Schuylerville, NY on April 3, 1913, the son of Gustav and Matilda Anderson Carlson.
He earned a BA in Chemistry from Cornell University in 1935, followed by numerous Industrial Engineering courses at New York University. Prior to World War II, he was employed by the Swift Packing Co. at Utica, as a superintendent. This was followed by Employment as a Chemical Engineer by Mueller Macaroni at Jersey City, NJ, and as an Industrial Engineer by Otis Elevator at Yonkers.
Frederick served his country during World War II as a Naval Officer aboard the USS Gansevoort DD 608 and for many years served as the chairman of the Hammond Gansevoort Annual reunion.
In 1942 in Ilion, NY, he married Mitzie Staring.
In 1950, he joined Remington Arms and retired in 1977 as Superintendent of Methods and Standards.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mitzie, who has cared for him at home during the last year; his daughter, Miriam Kelsey of Frankfort; and his four grandchildren who thought of him as their mentor, granddaughter, Andrea and Anthony Barres of Utica, and grandsons, Richard A. Mody of Utica, Jason and Emerine Kelsey of Norwich, and Brian Kelsey of Albany; three cherished great-grandchildren, Annika and Ethan Kelsey and Alexandrea Barres; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased on June 13, 2006, by his beloved daughter, Karen Carlson; and also predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Kenneth Randall of Rochester and Ethel and Dr. Watson Wharton of Smithfield, NC.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral service with full Military Honors on Saturday. Interment will follow in The Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort. Utica Observer Dispatch, Thursday, June 29, 2006
