George Abraham Hake was the son of Henry Miller Hake and Rachel Wortman Hake. His maternal grandparents were Abraham and Ann M. Rhodes Wortman. Abraham Wortman was born in 1768 and died in 1858. Ann Rhodes Wortman was born in 1783 and died in 1845. His paternal grandparents were John George Hake who was born in 1797, in York County, Pennsylvania and died in, Niles, Trumbull County, Ohio 1877, and Susanna Miller Hake who was born in 1792, in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. George was a blacksmith.

George Hake married Sarah Ann Box on 17 September 1874, in Wright County. Sarah was born on 11 February 1858, in Wright County. She died on 20 January 1936, at her home, two miles north of Hartville. Sarah was the daughter of William Pinkney and Mary Elvira Johnson Box. William Box was born in 1831, in Tennessee and died in 1916. Mary Elvira Johnson Box was born in 1835, in Howell County, Missouri.
