Hosea Ulysis Hake was the son of George Abraham Hake and Sarah Ann Box Hake. His paternal grandparents were Henry Miller Hake and Rachel Wortman Hake.

He married Artie Benton, on 13 December 1908. Artie was born in 1887, and died in October of 1922, in Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Simon Peter Benton, who was born on 4 September 1861 and died on 6 September 1934, and Angeline Coday Benton.

Simon Peter Benton is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemertey, in Hartville, Wright County.

In 1930, Hosea is widowed and living with his parents, George and Sarah Hake, in Brush Creek, Wright County, Missouri. Also living in the household is Hosea's brother, Roy T. Hake who is divorced and Hosea's son's Carrol and Earl Hake. Hosea was a farmer.

According to Hosea's death certificate he is buried in the Hartville Cemetery, in Hartville, Missouri. This Cemetery is now known as the Steele Memorial Cemetery.
