Vernon E. Wriedt, 89, of Kiel died Friday afternoon December 26, 2014 at Willow Park Place, New Holstein. He was born June 22, 1925 in the Town of Liberty, son of the late August & Alvina (Henning) Wriedt. Vernon was a 1943 graduate of Kiel High School. For a short time he had worked for his dad at Western Cheese Co. On May 13, 1944 he was united in marriage to Delores Helena Mauer at St. Peter UCC, Kiel. The couple lived and worked on the Mauer family farm for 2 ½ years before moving to Kiel. Vernon began his career at Stoelting Mfg. in Kiel and for more than 43 years he worked and traveled for Stoelting, building, servicing and installing machines throughout the U.S. and Canada. Vernon retired in 1990. In his free time, he and Delores enjoyed playing cards with their many friends. They especially loved to dance and would spend many Saturdays and Sundays at Steinthal, Cedar Lake and Brooklyn Bar dancing together and with friends. They also loved to travel, mostly throughout the US, especially Florida. Vernon and Delores enjoyed their Sunday drives to Madison to visit Roger and his family and would always make sure to stop at their favorite spots for dinner along the way. Family was very important to Vernon; he always made sure to take time for family and friends. Vernon was also a member of St. Peter UCC where he served as President of the Consistory. Vernon and Delores were especially grateful to be able to share their love for so many years, having celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary earlier in 2014. Survivors include his wife, Delores, a resident at Homestead Care Center, his two sons; Roger (Nancy) Wriedt of Madison, Don (Georgia) Wriedt of Kiel, his grandchildren; Kevin Wriedt of Louisville KY, Christine (Mark) Brown of Kiel, Rick (Becky) Wriedt, Paula (Jim) Roberts, both of Oregon WI. Vernon is further survived by six great grandchildren, his sister Carol Meiselwitz, sisters-in-law Janelle Wagner & Jeanette Wriedt, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother; Myron, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Wally Meiselwitz, Clarence (Arlene) Ninmer, Albin Wagner, Truman (Luella) Rabe, Lester Mauer and nephews Brian Wriedt and Dennis Meiselwitz. Funeral Services for Vernon will be held at 12:00pm (noon) on Tuesday December 30, 2014 at St. Peter UCC (424 Fremont St., Kiel) with Rev. Judine Duerwaechter officiating. Burial will follow in the Kiel City Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Church on Tuesday from 10:00am until the time of services. Vernon's family would like to thank the caring staff at Calumet Medical Center, Willow Park Place and Hospice Advantage. The care and compassion show to Vernon and his family was greatly appreciated
