Vernon graduated from Wynne Public Schools in 1968 and was a retired machinist in the aviation industry in Dallas, Texas.
NEWSPAPER Article: WYNNE PROGRESS JUNE 27, 1968 PG 1 - TRACTOR DRIVER BADLY BURNED AT FAIR OAKS. Vernon Young, 19, son of Mrs. Leota Young, was critically burned Friday morning when his tractor struck a power pole and the wire sagged and contacted him. He was working on the Jess Cox farm about one-half mile north of Fair Oaks. Charley Peacock of Beedeville was driving north on Hwy 39 and saw the accident. He rushed into the field and got Mr. Young out of contact with the wire then summoned aid. Mr. Young was taken to Baptist Hospital in Memphis and remains in very critical condition with severe burns on his right arm and shoulder.
Tho he had no children, Vernon was muched loved by his siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. He had a special relationship with Great-Greatniece, Emily Blake.
Vernon was preceeded in death by parents; Virgil & Leota Sue Benegar Young and 5 of th 7 brothers born to the union: Homer, Ed (Oran), Roy Wayne, Chester and Ivory. He is survived by his brother, Jerry (wife Sheila) and sisters: Elgie F Young Busby, Helen Young (Sullivan) Hess (died 2 weeks after Vernon) and Linda S Young. He is also survived by Nephews Rick Heartgraves, Gene Young, Doug Sullivan & James Young. Nieces: Mary Janette Young Clephane, Connie Sullivan Brawner & Kendra Young Matthews.
At Vernon's request, he was cremated and his ashes will be scattedered this Spring.
