Charles Marson was the son of Andrew Marson and Sarah Broughton. He was the husband of Sarah Peto, together they had five children: John William, Lillian, Ernest, Edith and Ethyl. He was a clock maker and worked at the Waltham Watch Factory. He resided in Waltham, Massachusetts and then moved to New Hamsphire where he lived for five years with his daughter Lillian and her husband Herbert Maker prior to his death.

His grave overlooks the Charles River and the Waltham Watch Factory, where he once worked, which is located directly across the river.
