He was married twice. His first wife was Catherine Black, born in Grenville, Canada. They married April 27,1904 in Grenville. She died in 1917 and was the mother of his two sons:

John Francis McSorley born in Spencerville In 1907.


Ernest Michael McSorley also born in Spencerville in 1912.
He was best known as being the last Captain of the ill-fated ship, EDMUND FITZGERALD, and went down with his crew in November, 1975 in the icy waters of Lake Superior.





After the death of his wife, Michael remarried in 1923 to Alice Dunnery and the whole family migrated to Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York in November of that year.
