Hays -- Mathilda "Tillie" Hammerschmidt, 89, Hays, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1992, at the St. John's of Victoria Nursing Home.

Mrs. Hammerschmidt was born Mathilda Schmidt on May 3, 1903, at Catherine and was a lifelong resident of; Ellis County.

She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Catherine Catholic Church.

Her husband, Otto, died in 1963; and she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Schmidt.

Survivors include two sons, Adolph and Clarence, both of Hays; a daughter, Frances Rupp of Hays; two sisters, Pauline Brull of Hays and Bonnie Frazier of Pueblo, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Catherine Catholic Church, the Rev. Carl Kramer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. toddy at Hays Memorial Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the church or St. John's of Victoria Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. land; from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 20th and Pine, Hays, 167601.
